Marathounta, Paphos
DATE: 1945–1947
AREA: Paphos
FACT: CE3
This report documents in detail the events that took place in the area of Marathounta in Paphos between 1945 and 1947, as described in the compelling testimony of Dionysios.
The account begins one afternoon when the witness, then only eleven years old, was in his family’s fields tending to the animals. The calm of the rural landscape was suddenly shattered by the appearance of an object that tore across the sky at tremendous speed, approaching from the north.
Dionysios describes the craft as resembling two metallic barrels joined together, emitting an intense glow. Upon impact with the ground, the object raised a massive cloud of dust and smoke, instilling awe and fear in the child observing from a short distance. From the interior of the craft emerged three or four humanoid entities, dressed in tight-fitting uniforms of deep blue color. A distinctive feature of their attire was a vivid red stripe running along the side of the suit from the shoulder down to the feet. The witness describes entering a state of complete paralysis or hypnosis, during which he lost all sense of time. Although it seemed to him that only a few minutes had passed, he was in fact missing for the entire night. He was found the following morning by his mother in a state of confusion, bearing a dark brown and bluish mark on his hip that had not been there before.
Due to the religious beliefs of the time, the local community interpreted the event as demonic influence, and the child was taken to church for purification rituals.
Approximately one month after the initial incident, a second encounter occurred, more interactive and decisive in nature. This time, the craft was egg-shaped, silver in appearance, and hovered silently above the ground without any visible propulsion system.
One of the occupants, wearing a transparent helmet resembling a glass sphere, approached Dionysios and spoke to him in the Cypriot dialect, urging him not to be afraid.
In a gesture that marked the encounter, the being asked the child for his “tsakkoudi,” the traditional folding knife he was carrying. Dionysios handed it over, and in return, the entity promised to “open his mind” and make him the smartest person, assuring him that he would never need to fear anything again in his life.
The transformation that followed in the days afterward was remarkable to those around him. Dionysios, who until then had received little formal education and was considered an ordinary rural child, suddenly exhibited extraordinary intellectual abilities.
He began performing complex mathematical calculations mentally, involving numbers in the millions, within seconds—surpassing even his teacher, Mr. Oikonomidis. At the same time, he developed an exceptional photographic memory, enabling him to memorize entire history books after a single reading.
A school inspector who was called to assess him was astonished by the level of detail the child could recall, describing him as a rare prodigy.
The case did not remain an isolated personal experience. It was later associated with broader reports of unidentified aerial activity in the Paphos region, some of which appear in declassified documents from foreign intelligence services. Dionysios himself, through his recorded testimony, maintained throughout his life that the entities were friendly, and that their intervention granted him the “gift of knowledge,” which helped him become a successful individual. His story remains one of the most well-documented cases in Cyprus in which a close encounter is linked to a lasting and measurable enhancement of human cognitive abilities.
The archive includes a digitized recording of the witness’s interview.
